The Concept School admissions process includes enrollment for the next school year and, when applicable, for the current year if a placement is available.
1. Contact TCS at 610-399-1135 or contact Admissions online. It is our policy to return admission calls within a day. If we do not return your call or email within two days, your request has been derailed. Please allow us to make amends by contacting us, at 610-399-1135 during school hours (8:45 am – 3:15 pm).
2. Review the school literature and web site.
3. Register for an Open House by calling the school, if interested for the next school year. If you are interested in the present school term, make an appointment to view a presentation and take a walking tour with Carol McAdam, our administrative assistant.
4. Submit a completed application form and include these items:
- report cards from the last two years
- school testing record (I.Q. estimates and recent achievement test results) and/or psychological testing done within the past 3 years showing achievement levels and WISC scores.
- a non-refundable application fee ($75 check payable to The Concept School)
5. TCS accesses the placement. The materials will be reviewed, after the receipt of a completed application and the application fee. Pending the assessment and confirmation of the appropriateness for a prospective student’s placement at TCS, the Director approves a visit, which is required for admission.
6. The prospective student visits TCS. The school office will contact the parents to arrange a date for the prospective student to visit. The visit will be for one school week. During a visit, teachers will talk with a prospective student and answer his/her questions. Testing for placement in English, reading, and math are conducted at this time.
7. Final acceptance determined. The application of a prospective student is given a final review and a determination is made as to whether or not The Concept School is an appropriate placement for the child. This review may take up to two weeks or longer if the materials requested are incomplete. Upon completion of the application review, the family will be notified of the decision. (A child may be accepted if he/she has one area of deficit, possibly with two, but three areas of deficiency would be grounds for declining a student’s application. We also hesitate to accept a child who is more than two years behind in any academic area.) Students with significant behavioral and/or emotional needs will require more support than TCS is able to provide.
8. Placement reserved. A placement is held for two weeks following acceptance while the family fulfills the requirements for enrollment.
If you have any questions before or during the admissions process, we encourage you to call the school at 610-399-1135.
