The Concept School is a small, independent, college-preparatory school with an educational program for students in grades 6-12 who excel in a small learning community. Our supportive, caring, and dedicated staff provides a structured environment and state accredited curriculum to prepare children for post-secondary programs. Students of average to above average ability participate in small classes with a teacher-student ratio of one to eight. We educate each student according to their identified strengths and interests.
The Concept School is an Equal Opportunity Employer. It is our policy to make all personnel and student decisions without discriminating on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex, physical disability, mental disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, citizenship status, national or ethnic origin, and any other protected status.

Our Mission
The Concept School provides small classes and the support of a close knit community to:
- guide students in the development of their unique abilities and talents,
- encourage students to work independently with a personal commitment to academic achievement,
- offer students the opportunities for the exploration of new ideas and approaches to accomplish their goals.
We know your child and they know us.
At TCS, each student is understood as an individual by the entire staff, providing a nurturing, safe academic and social learning environment. Our size works to our advantage; we have the time to know every child and the closeness to understand their needs.
We provide differentiated instruction.
We place students in classes according to their abilities in that subject. It is quite common for students to have unequal proficiency among their subjects, for example, strong in math and weak in reading or strong in reading and weak in math. It is vital to their self esteem and educational success that they move ahead with their strengths and get help with their weaker skills.
We foster ongoing communication among staff, parents, and child.
A foundation of the TCS environment is an open communication partnership among staff, parents, and students. Our web based communication enhances planning for events, field trips, forms and assignments. For educational and social concerns for an individual student, we encourage email correspondence and schedule meetings among the concerned individuals by phone or at TCS.
We nurture the development of critical thinking skills.
A goal of our educational process is the development of critical thinking skills. Critical thinking is a life skill; understanding why things work the way they do in the physical or social realms fosters logical reasoning and self awareness. Not only are reading/math comprehension, writing, and following directions improved, but students gain a deeper understanding of curriculum and ultimately are better prepared to make informed life decisions.
We help develop good citizenship and social skills in our students.
Mastery of academics contributes to success in life, but must be complemented by the ability to work effectively with others. TCS students are encouraged and mentored to improve their communication, organizational and social skills.
They, as members of the TCS community, learn to make responsible, socially proactive choices.
We enable the student to identify and use resources independently.
At TCS, students grow to understand and value their uniqueness. Students gain understanding of their personal learning profile, learning to capitalize on their strengths and to develop strategies for overcoming academic and social gaps.
Our objective is to graduate confident, self-aware individuals capable of reaching their goals.
