On Thursday, February 19, 2026, students and faculty visited Ft. Mifflin, the oldest fortification continually used in the United States. The fort spanned The Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, and World War II. We had an interesting and informative tour of the fort, which included an overview of the history of the fort, including an amazing story of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, a doctor during the Civil War. Dr. Mary Walker remains the only woman in United States history to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor! In 1917, the government tried to rescind her award but Mary refused to give it back!
We also learned that many believe the Fort to be haunted by several spirits, and has been the subject of several paranormal TV shows.
It was a gloomy day outside, the Fort was very muddy, but that didn’t dampen our spirits! We all had a great time!
