Profile of a Student

At TCS, we educate “unique minds in unique ways.”

Our small class sizes allow us to provide individualized attention and hands-on teaching. A structured, customized curriculum, a multisensory approach to learning, and our nurturing, positive environment enables students to flourish and develop as life-long learners and confident self-advocates. TCS graduates are well prepared to meet the demands of post-secondary life, whether entering college, career training programs, or the workforce. As a former student said, “The school provides space for growth of self-awareness and individuality that enables students to mature.”

We work with an eclectic mix of students at TCS.

Students have been diagnosed with learning disabilities, autism, anxiety disorders, and other related emotional disorders. We are not structured to work with students who have major behavioral concerns. However, many students exhibit some negative behaviors if their needs are not being met, and our school has been successful in helping to eliminate those behaviors in our more nurturing environment.

Most of our students felt “lost” in the larger, traditional schools from which they came. We have successfully worked with students from the following school districts:

Appoquinimink (DE)

Our students range from age 11-19, come from a wide-range of family sizes and types, and represent multiple ethnic and religious backgrounds. We have historically educated more males than females and this year we anticipate 21% of our student body will be girls. Many students remain at TCS until graduation.

Graduates of The Concept School go onto two-year and four-year colleges, enroll in technical schools, or go directly into the work force. Some of the institutions of higher education TCS students have enrolled in are:

Automotive Training Center
Delaware County Community College
George Mason University
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Jefferson University
Johnson and Wales University
Landmark College
Lincoln University
Neumann University
Pennsylvania State University
Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology
University of Delaware

Villanova University
West Chester University

Whatever a student wants to do after high school, The Concept School is here to support them and their family. Our Transitions Coordinator works with students to make sure we help them find their passion.

Before we found Concept, school had become a nightmare. We now have a new child on our hands. She has become self-assured, happy, and confident.
