Founded in 1972 by a group of concerned educators, led by Dr. Carol Tucker, The Concept School is a co-educational school that provides quality education for students in need of options for their academic growth. Our academic community began as a school where children with obstacles to overcome could be comfortable and successful. We excel in creating a challenging and supportive environment for students who have difficulty focusing in class, struggle with reading comprehension, find social interaction difficult, or for those who seek a small school environment.
The Concept School and adjoining Nature Center Area are on a ten-acre site located at the intersection of Route 926 and Westtown Road in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where students come from all over the county and nearby Delaware County southeastern Pennsylvania, as well as New Castle County, Delaware. We are currently accepting students for grades 6 through 12.
TCS’ tuition is $29,500.00 for the 2018-2019 school year. That amount is very reasonable compared to other schools that serve similar students. Unfortunately, we do not offer financial assistance. We are working on a plan that will allow us to perhaps offer financial aid in the future. Many of our students are able to attend TCS as a result of an agreement with their home school districts. Families often use advocates or law offices to assist them with this process.
We enroll approximately 30-35 students each year. Our schedule is developed with two semesters a year and school begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and ends in mid-June. We host a Welcome Back Picnic for students, their families, and staff the week before school begins. This is a great time to meet the members of our community.
A Board of Directors as a non-profit educational entity governs the Concept School. We are licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a Licensed Private Academic School.
